The Greater Dawrai Community Association (GDCA) Family Gathering & Student Awards 2026 was held at the London Muslim Centre on Sunday 18 January 2026.
The event brought together families across the UK with ancestral roots in the village of Dawrai, Sylhet, Bangladesh. It celebrated the academic achievements of the younger generation across four categories: GCSE, A Level, Graduate, and Postgraduate.
The gathering also provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices and hardships faced by the elder generations upon their arrival in the UK—struggles that laid the foundations for the opportunities enjoyed by today’s generation.
Students were presented with awards and certificates by members of the GDCA Management Committee and respected senior figures from the community, recognising both excellence and perseverance.
The event was presided over and formally inaugurated by the Chairman of GDCA UK, Anis Ali. The Secretary General of the organisation was Mahboob Islam (Hanif) hosted the event, and proceedings were moderated by the former Chairman and current Senior Vice Chairman, Amir Hussain.
Among those in attendance were Vice Chairman Tarif Khan, Treasurer Shahin Miah (UD); former Chairmen Azad Miah Faruk, Arju Miah MBE, Ayub Khan (also former Chairman of the London Muslim Centre); former Vice Chairman Shahin Miah (Milik); former Treasurers Faruk Miah (Zilu), Kamal Hussain, M.A. Kawsar, Jitu Miah; along with Lutfur Rahman, Shamim Khan, Shoraz Miah, Mossodor Ali (Abdal), Ajmal Ali (Shipu), Rouf Miah, Abdul Motin (Afroz), Koys Hussein, Moshiur Rahman Raja, Hiron Miah, Suruk Miah, Rajon Miah, Ziaul Amin (Jewel), Helal Amin, Kazol Miah, Sazzadur Rahman, Abdul Qayyum, Toymus Khan, Abu Bokkor Khan, Reza Khan, Ataur Rahman Khan, Humayun Kobir Rajon, Ruhul Amin, Jabarul Amin, and many other respected village dignitaries.
The event was a powerful reflection of unity, heritage, and the continued commitment of the Dawrai community to education, progress, and future generations.
